1. You may submit up to five photos on the following subjects:
The role of culture (art) in society (theatre, music, dance, cinema, literature...)

  • Encounters artists – public (e.g. living emotions)
  • Youth and culture (what does culture offer for youth vs. influence of youth on culture)
  • New realities, new possibilities and challenges (e.g. use of mobile technology, online platforms/ social media etc.)

Intercultural realities – Cultural encounters

  • Traditional versus modern life
  • Globalization and its effects on the Bangladeshi society
  • Different cultural realities in Bangladesh

2. Each submission must be accompanied by details on the photographer, the date and location the photo has been taken as well as a relevant caption. This information must be entered in the respective form on the competition platform.

3. Exclusively young local Bangladeshi photographers (residents in Bangladesh) are eligible to participate. Participants should be at least 18 and maximum 30 years old (at the time of the submission of the photographs for the competition).

4. The photo submission must be created and owned by the participant.

5. Photographs may be submitted starting on 26 th May 2016 (time zone Bangladesh). You may upload your photo on the contest website according to the instructions provided there. The deadline for photo submissions is 27 th July 2016 (time zone Bangladesh).

6. Photographs must be submitted in a digital format. We recommend submitting the highest resolution image possible, but no more than 10MB. High resolution images from the winners will be asked at a later stage.

7. All submitted and accepted images will be valued by a jury panel. These valuations determine the competition winners.

8. Photographers can only win once the prize – to participate in the three day photographic workshop in Bangladesh, which will be held in September 2016. This means the ten photographers which will receive from the jury the most scores for one of their photographs will be the winners. Out of all the photographs submitted, the one with the highest score will count in the competition. If a selected winner is prevented from attending the workshop (which will be held in September), the next photographer in the ranking list will take the place in the workshop and there will be no compensation. However, the ten winner photographs will be published on the online platform after the winner announcement on September 1 st, 2016. The winners and the workshop participants will both get the possibility to participate in a photo exhibition.


Photo submissions will be judged on the following three criteria:

1. Power of the image / photograph and a meaningful, creative caption that together tell a story related to the competition topics.

2. The photographs should portray a conceptual and artistic work in an attractive and coherent way (visual language, style).

3. Originality.

PLEASE NOTE: Decisions of the jury are final and not subject to negotiations or appeal.


The jury has been determined by SDC. SDC reserves the right to substitute or modify the jury at any time, for any reason.


The following is based on the Bill of Rights for Artists' Campaign whereas chapter 1.1 and 4 have been adapted to the requirements/needs of this contest.

1. Copyright and Permissions

1.1. By submitting works to this contest you confirm that for each work submitted;

a. You alone are the author of your work and that it is your original work,

b. You are the sole copyright holder,

c. You have not licensed any rights in the work to any third party,

d. It does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, contract rights, or any intellectual property rights of any person or entity,

e. It does not violate the right to privacy and you have obtained, prior to submission of your work, any and all releases and consents necessary to permit the use of your work without compensation.

f. It has not been a winning entry in any other competition.

You will be responsible for any claim or complaint made by any third party in respect of your entry and you agree to fully indemnify SDC in respect of all royalties, fees and any other liabilities owing to any person or entity by reason of your breaching any of the foregoing.

1.2. SDC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry that does not comply with any of the above, even after the entry is submitted on the competition platform.

1.3. After final selection the photographers have to send their high res as a proof that they are the owner of the image/s as a condition to be accepted to participate in the workshop. Detailed instruction will be sent after final selection to the winners.

2. Unacceptable Content

SDC reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entry:

1. That contains threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libellous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, inflammatory, pornographic or profane content,

2. That contains any material that could constitute or encourage conduct which would be considered a criminal offence, give rise to civil liability, or otherwise violate any law.

3. Your Copyright and Moral Rights

SDC respects your rights and does not claim ownership or copyright for works you submit to this contest.

You will retain full ownership and copyright in each entry. With exception of description at point 4 “Use of works”.

In addition, your moral rights are respected. Whenever your work is published you will be mentioned as the author of the image.

4. Use of Works

4.1. By entering this contest you agree that for any work that you submit FDFA/SDC will have the right to diffuse the work for promotion and communication reasons related to the competition, for example pick of the week on Facebook.

4.2. All or selected competition entries, including the winning photographs, will be displayed on the competition platform as long as the platform is online.

4.3. The winners hereby grant FDFA/SDC the right to use their images submitted to the competition and the images realized during the workshop for exhibitions (not of commercial character) as well as communication reasons related to the competition until End of December 2017.



Registration: To register, you will be asked for personal information. The personal information provided is only used for technical purposes, customer administration and notification of the winners.

As a user you are entitled to cancel your member account at any time.

User names and passwords: Member accounts, user names and passwords are personal to each user.

Users shall not allow any others to use their member account, user name or password under any circumstances. Each user is responsible for safeguarding his/her password carefully with the full awareness that failure to keep the password secure will enable others to engage in transactions for which the user will be legally responsible. Users shall immediately notify SDC if they become aware of or believe there is or may have been any unauthorized use of their member account, user name or password or any other need to deactivate their member account, user name or password due to security concerns.
